I received my MFA in Furniture Design at Rhode Island School of Design, and two BFA’s at Virginia Commonwealth University, in Art History and Crafts. What I have been exposed to has profoundly influenced me - from career interests in Art Conservation and Sculpture to the business of retail/fashion. My work continues to evolve. Most of the work you see was created several years after graduate school, as I succumbed to my current job/work routine in Visual Merchandising and the fast pace of NYC. I still remember the turning point when I actually felt the strong need to create, despite hectic schedules and distractions. Initially, I wanted to paint. But then, as I was drawing, I was impressed by the beauty of the Belgium linen on the stretcher. I started to match colored pencils/paint to the natural colors of the linen. I imagined something ghostly, simple, and raw.
Some other interests and inspirations: Agnes Martin, Bill Viola, and the spiritual beauty of Tibetan Mandala sand painting, and its ritual removal and effacement. The sand painting I find to be a gesture both humble and beautiful, a metaphor for the impermanence of life.
